We decided to go with a fairly traditional bracing pattern because a grid may add too much rigidity and unneeded weight. Instead we are sculpting the braces for maximum strength with minimum weight by cutting and relieving wood wherever possible.

Grid bracing

0 min read
We're mapping out the bracing for the back board. It's going too be in a grid so you can see the pattern through the soundhole. Should the soundhole be a square? Hmm... maybe.

We are hard at work on "no. 004 - ukulele Mondrian" Just finished the neck and neck block and am getting ready to add kerfing to the body.

...how much would you charge for a uke?
My ukuleles start at $300 for a tenor size. Price varies depending on the options you choose. Unfortunately, right now I'm pretty backed up with orders and the next available one is about 7-8 months away. I really appreciate your interest though and I'll be getting a store website going this Spring and Summer at [link] Do you play already or are you interested in getting into ukuleles?

Dave
i want to get into them, but i am not willing to pay that much at this time
Oh man sorry I didnt' get back for so long. Been busy and haven't been on for awhile. There are many ways to get into a good ukulele for less. look into a Fluke or Flea from jumping flea music. They;re kind of funky looking but they sound terrific and are very affordable. If you like a more traditional looking uke, you might check out Mele Ukuleles from Maui or Kala ukes. Both are pretty affordable but good quality instruments. Then maybe sometime down the road we can build you one. good luck

thanks very much Bear. I'm still pretty new at building ukuleles but I'm learning quickly and they sound grand. Thanks again for the comments
